Arts center's legacy to Modesto

I recently attended the Joffrey Ballet's inspired interpretation of the choreography of Twyla Tharp at the Gallo Center for the Arts. Anyone who believes that ballet is an elitist art form would have had that image shattered by a performance that blended the classical with pop-rock funk. By all accounts, it was a resounding success.

More importantly, the opening of the arts center marked a transition in the evolution of a city. Generations from now the center will be remembered as the beginning of a real commitment to the cultural legacy of the Modesto community.

The Carnegie Arts Center should be to Turlock what the Gallo is to Modesto.
