In you editorial, "Two for contested Modesto council races" (Oct. 7), you state that the six men running for two contested seats are not all equally equipped to handle the issues. You then say that one of them lives in the Airport neighborhood and is a community activist who is focused on combating gangs, drugs and poverty. You continue to say his interest is commendable, but he is not prepared to address the full range of city issues.
You seem to be saying that you cannot recommend people running on district issues, as they are not prepared to address citywide issues. Won't district elections give us council members who are focused mainly on district issues, not citywide issues?
