I remember a professor I had at Modesto Junior College in the 1970s who was a New York transplant. She was a huge Broadway fan, and her enthusiasm was shared with the New York audiences by shouts of "Bravo, bravo!" When she attended the symphony here, her natural impulses to shout "Bravo!" were met with curious stares by the other patrons. She was confused that the crowd here didn't get it.
Modesto has grown from the town of American Graffiti fame to the city which has the magnificent Gallo Center for the Arts. Professor, if you could only see us now. Modesto, Bravo!
