President Bush says the Democrats in Congress are irresponsible for voting for expanded health-care coverage for America's children in low-income families. Democrats and Republicans want to spend $35 billion over five years for this coverage. If the Dems are irresponsible, what about the Repubs?
"This legislation will get the Children's Health Insurance Program back on track and reclaim precious resources for low-income kids," said Sen. Charles E. Grassley, R-Iowa. Another Republican, Sen. Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, called the agreement "an honest compromise that improves a program that works for America's low-income children." Other Republicans behind this legislation include Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine.
