Get up and go got up and went

When I first came to this country I was impressed with American know-how. I think most of the world was. They got things done here, and if there was something wrong, it was changed. The term "get up and go" was used in my old country in describing America.

The disillusionment came when I saw a nation elect, for a second term, a notorious liar who consistently used the people and treated the Constitution as though there was none.

Later, when the Democrats gained a slim majority in the House and Senate, we were given to believe that the healing process was about to start. It didn't and we sit by and watch a modern version of "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" that apparently nobody can stop, and some even appear to be waiting for the elections, which are well over a year away. If we wait until then to act, we may find that our "get up and go" got up and went.
