Cutting health funding hurts all

I believe Stanislaus County is abandoning its responsibility to care for those unable to pay for even basic medical care. The reduction of hours at the urgent care clinic will only increase the backup at emergency departments and increase the amount people have to pay for basic care. Emergency care is not free, nor cheap. Already the patients have difficulty getting appointments at the already overwhelmed clinics. Those who now will be ineligible to join the medically indigent adults program will be unable to pay for clinic visits, urgent care or emergency care.

I do believe the individual must take responsibility for his or her health, but to deny them basic office or urgent care visits is absurd. It will affect all those patients who truly need emergency care, including those decision-makers.
