Sickness no excuse for crime

In response to "Sick dad gets long sentence for petty crime" (Aug. 29, Letters): I can't believe he places the blame for this sentence on law enforcement, accusing them of making critical mistakes! It is not the fault of law enforcement that his father broke the law. When people break the law, they must pay the cost. If he has a problem with the way his father or others are sentenced, then he should look deeper into the laws of this state and go to a higher authority.

It is also very hard for me to believe that his father has been denied all medication while in jail. Inmates in our jail systems are not denied medical care or treatment. In fact, they have many opportunities that are not afforded to the hard-working people of this state.
