Letters to the Editor

Pay raises infuriate writer

An open letter to the governor:

I'm sure you will not even see this, but I feel compelled to say I am appalled at your decision to hand out such exorbitant pay raises ("Governor giving pay raises to staff," Sept. 1, Page A-7) while folks out here, folks who have worked all of their lives to support their families, to pay their taxes, to finally retire to a near-poverty level (in this day of milk going to $5 a gallon), get by on $1,000 a month with Social Security and raises of less than 3 percent.

It's a slap in the face to open the newspaper and see this, knowing that our tax dollars are paying for it.

Just another hard-working American who now questions his decision to vote for you in the first place.
