Letters about war, primaries, Dick Cheney and the home front

On "Face the Nation," host Bob Schieffer expressed concern regarding the conclusions that Gen. David Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, U.S. ambassador to Iran, have come to on the progress of the surge. Their opinions may become a part of the general assessment given by the president. Will we be given a watered-down version of the opinions expressed by these two highly regarded observers? Can we be sure we will hear an unadulterated version of their conclusions?

Will the president give us the truth as represented to him, or will he resort to a political distortion of the facts? We are dealing with an autocratic administration determined to support the president's policies and a president who does not wish to lose face. So much depends on the observations of Petraeus and Crocker.
