Stamp Out Sprawl is 87 percent ineffective

There's Denny featured in The Bee ("Salida Now foes criticize county," Aug. 9. Page A-1) saying, "One thing is for certain ... Denny Jackman will still be around and will fight like hell to protect this farmland." What a joke! Denny's Stamp Out Sprawl initiative, which will be called Measure E on the February ballot, does little to protect farmland. It contains no farmland mitigation measures and it leaves cities absolutely unfettered to pave over as much farmland as they wish. According to the California Department of Finance, 87 percent of Stanislaus County's growth since 1990 has taken place within its cities. So Denny's plan is 87 percent ineffective and is really just an assault on our basic property rights.
