'Have you ever seen a poor farmer?'

In response to "Farmers caught in bind not of their own making" (Aug. 16, Page B-6): It is ridiculous to say the problem of not enough laborers is not of their own making. Farmers are the main ones that lure poor Mexicans to work their fields and live in poverty, having the taxpayers foot the bill for all of their needs.

You will not see farmers advertise jobs in the paper. I picked fruit in my youth, as did many other Americans. It is modern-day slave labor. Contractors are other culprits who make it hard for law-abiding contractors to compete. Farmers are always claiming poverty, but answer this: Have you ever seen a poor farmer?
