Knowing neighbors helps fight crime

National Night Out is tonight. As a Neighborhood Watch captain for Glenwood Drive, I would like to encourage all citizens to take this opportunity to get to know your neighbors. One short year ago, my neighborhood was riddled with drug dealers, street racers and overall criminal mayhem until I started to call upon my neighbors for help. Once we derived a system for reporting criminal activities, and once we partnered up with the Modesto police, the bad guys fled our area.

This program works. It is the overall community spirit and unification of neighbors that forms an army against crime.

It is so important to do our part when it comes to fighting crime. Having our lives remain peaceful depends on a structured and watchful community.
