A few comments regarding the column by Ruben Navarrette Jr., "Immigration debate turning anti-Latino" (July 30, Page B-5): I agree that the immigration debate is turning anti-Latino. However, the Mexicans are bringing most of it on themselves. They appear to not want to "be Americans," but rather to be Mexicans living in America. Why do I say this? The fact they are illegal and yet demand legalization, all the while flying Mexican flags; they don't make an effort to learn English — something that really rubs most Americans the wrong way — and they are driving down wages by working for less than the minimum wage and taking jobs away from American citizens. Contrary to what Washington tries to tell us, they are taking jobs that Americans are willing to do.
