For a number of weeks now I’ve “Trapped, Neutered and Returned” cats who have taken up residence at the Kaiser Hospital complex in Modesto. Apparently, Kaiser doesn’t want these animals to “thrive.” I’ve been informed Kaiser officials have hired a “pest” company to remove these cats. When queried about where the cats were being taken, a Kaiser service worker told me they were going to Manteca somewhere to be “rehabilitated.” The San Joaquin County shelter told me they would not take feral cats from another county. They said any feral cat trapped at the Modesto Kaiser hospital must be surrendered to the Stanislaus County shelter.
I didn’t know a pest control company could rehab a pest. I thought they just exterminated them. I certainly hope this company isn’t doing something nefarious with these animals.
I’ve reached out to the facility supervisor to obtain the name of the shelter the cats were going to, but couldn’t leave a message because his “mailbox is full.”
TNR is a universally recognized method of controlling feral cat colonies. My vet says if cats are removed from a colony, more will just take their place. And then “thrive” for sure.
