Towering tree splits Turlock house. No one hurt, but three people displaced
The roof and walls of a Turlock home were no match for the enormous tree that fell into it during stormy weather Monday morning, “splitting it down the middle,” as a fire department report put it.
A little before 6:40 a.m., a fire engine crew was dispatched to the report of a tree on a house in the 1500 block of Hawkeye Avenue. Firefighters found a once-towering tree lying through the middle of the house.
“There was one occupant home when the tree came down. No injuries were reported,” Turlock Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jason Bernard told The Bee by text on Tuesday. “Crews worked with TID and PG&E to secure utilities. There were three adults displaced.”
The residents were informed it was not safe to re-enter the structure, the incident report says, and the property was taped off to deter anyone from nearing the house.
Bernard estimated the conifer was taller than 100 feet. “It went across the whole lot.”
