An 87-year-old man died in a boating accident at Huntington Lake on Monday, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The solo boating accident happened at 3:37 p.m. between the dam and Lakeshore Marina, Lt. Richard Wilhoite said.

Wilhoite said a couple was in a sailboat at the lake when it flipped over for an unknown reason. The woman, whose identity was not released, started swimming to shore but when she looked back, the man was already dead.

According to Wilhoite, the victim had a previous medical issue. His name and hometown were not released as of Tuesday afternoon.

No one else was in the water in that area of the lake at the time, Wilhoite said.

This case remains under investigation.
