Elections

Time to register to vote or get an absentee ballot

October 04, 2008 12:29 AM

You've survived the endless primary battles, the debates, the yammering pundits and negative advertising, now it's time to get serious. The Stanislaus County sample ballot booklets hit the mail Friday and absentee ballots will be mailed Tuesday, said Lee Lundrigan, county clerk-recorder and registrar of voters.

If you haven't registered to vote, you have until Oct. 20. Registration-by-mail forms are available at several locations in the county, including city halls, post offices, fire stations, libraries and county buildings. Or you can request a form by calling the election information number, 525-5200. For help in Spanish, call 525-5230.

The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is Oct. 28 and can be done by filling out the vote-by-mail application on the back cover of the sample ballot booklet; by a letter addressed to the Election Office, 1021 I St., Modesto, 95354; or in person at the Election Office at 11th and I streets in downtown Modesto.

Election results will be posted on the Stanislaus Registrar of Voters' Web site, www.stanvote.com, after the polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 4.
