Degas, Picasso and now Miró.

The Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock continues its mission to bring in works by the world’s greatest artists with a planned September exhibit featuring original printmaking pieces by Spanish surrealist master Joan Miró.

Early discounted tickets are on sale now for a Sept. 13 gala preview of the exhibit, which will run Sept. 14 through Jan. 11 at the nonprofit Turlock venue.

The “Joan Miró: Fantastic Universe” exhibit will feature “the famed artist’s exploration of printmaking, synthesizing his lifelong fascination with surrealist themes of dreams, memories and the subconscious,” according to a Carnegie Arts Center news release.

The curated collection is expected to feature 60 original lithographs and etchings.

Miró, born in Barcelona in 1893, joined the surrealist movement in Paris in the 1920s, embracing the idea of dreams, irrational associations and the subconscious in art.

From the late 1920s until his death, Miró produced a large number and wide range of graphic works, according to the release, and the original prints coming to the Carnegie will “illustrate Miró’s fascination with overarching themes such as memory, childhood, and nature.”

The preview gala will honor Miró’s Spanish heritage in its theme, featuring flamenco dancing, Spanish food – tapas and cocktails, dinner and dessert – and live music. Discounted tickets are $125 through Aug. 1; $150 after. Tickets are on sale at www.carnegiegala.eventbrite.com.

The exhibit will be on view Wednesdays-Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Sept. 14. Tickets will be $10 general; $8 for students, seniors and Carnegie members; and free for ages 12 and younger.

The Miró exhibit follows those by other major artists, including a showing of Pablo Picasso’s ceramics in 2013; drawings, prints, sculpture and photographs by French impressionist Edgar Degas in 2012; and works by famed photographer Ansel Adams in 2011.

The Carnegie Arts Center is at 250 North Broadway, Turlock.
