Pedestrian killed in Turlock

A Turlock man died after he was hit by a car Saturday night when he tried to cross Lander Avenue south of Greenway Avenue, authorities said.

The man's identity was not released pending family notification. Officials said he may have been drinking.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 30-year-old man was standing on the east shoulder of Lander, then walked across the northbound lane and into the southbound lane in front of a car driven by Alexandrina Borges, 46, of Hilmar about 8:30 p.m.

Borges was driving about 40 mph, and did not have time to brake or steer around the man, according to the CHP. She was not injured.
