Modesto Junior College is offering two Cash for College Nights for high school seniors and recent graduates at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in Glacier Hall on the west campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.
The free financial-aid workshops will be of value to any college-bound student who needs help meeting college expenses, either at MJC or at another institution, and no advance registration is necessary. The workshops offer a basic overview of the application processes.
Computers and financial-aid technicians will be available to help attendees in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, better known as the FAFSA, so they can submit it by the Cal Grant deadline of March 2.
Most high school students will need to report parental information on their financial-aid application form and may find it helpful to have their parents attend the workshop with them. Assistance for Spanish-speaking attendees will be provided.
High school seniors who attend a Cash for College workshop can enter a drawing to win a $1,500 scholarship by downloading the new Cash for College app and accepting push notifications.
Starting the application process early has these advantages:
▪ Many programs, including Cal Grant, have application deadlines early in the year.
▪ Funding is limited in many programs and may be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
▪ An early application allows ample time to make any necessary corrections to the application.
▪ Students can receive notification of financial-aid eligibility prior to college attendance.
▪ Peace of mind.
Financial-aid technicians are also available on an ongoing basis to assist with applications and to answer questions. Find more information on the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov. For more information on financial aid or the workshop, call the MJC financial-aid office at (209) 575-7700.
