The driver of a silver sedan is being sought in a fatal hit-and-run crash with a bicyclist on El Vista Avenue in Modesto on Thursday night. The cyclist, a 40-year-old Modesto woman, was taken to a local hospital, where she died Friday morning.

The crash occurred about 8:50 p.m. on El Vista north of Encina Avenue in east Modesto. Early reports indicate the driver of the sedan, possibly a Dodge Magnum, was traveling north on El Vista when he collided with the cyclist, then fled the scene.

Witnesses and passers-by stayed with the woman until emergency personnel arrived. Her name has not been released, pending notification of family.

The driver was described as a white male adult in his 30s or 40s, with short to balding hair. The car likely has damage to its hood, passenger side and possibly windshield.

The cause of the crash, and fault, had not been determined early Friday, Modesto police Officer Billy Boyle said in a news release.

Anyone with information on the collision is asked to contact Boyle at boyleb@modestopd.com.
