Woman arrested for starting fire in Ripon restroom

A transient woman was arrested in Ripon on Wednesday on suspicion of setting a fire inside the restroom of a truck and trailer repair shop.

Ripon police officers were dispatched to Burns Truck and Trailer on West Santos Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. for a reported fire that employees said was started in the bathroom by an unknown woman.

The woman reportedly yelled profanity at the employees, then fled the area, according to Sgt. Steve Merchant.

Responding officers located the suspect about a half a mile away at the Jimco Truck Stop parking lot.

She ran from officers but they found her a short time later hiding under a trailer, according to Merchant.

Jessica Marie Utley, 37, was booked on suspicion of arson. She also had a warrants from the Stockton Police Department for commercial burglary and driving under the influence.
