Authorities arrested a 74-year-old man on suspicion of murder in the shooting deaths of two people near the Tuolumne River on Sunday. They also released the identities of the victims.

Robert Leon Lynch was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on Sunday, jail records show. He is being held without bail and is set to appear in Stanislaus Superior Court for arraignment Tuesday.

Lynch was arrested in the fatal shooting of Cynthia Antrim, 30, and Chad Evert Romesha, 41, both of Modesto.

Deputies were dispatched at 11:17 a.m. to a call of shots fired on the 600 block of River Road. While en route, deputies learned two people had been shot.

They arrived to find the man and woman with gunshot wounds. Antrim was pronounced dead at the scene. Romesha was taken to Doctors Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Sheriff’s detectives believe both victims were homeless and had been living along the river.
