For the past three years, someone – or several someones – has been stealing plants from the flowerbeds that border the Law Offices of Mark S. Nelson on McHenry Avenue.
Tom Nelson, the firm’s legal assistant and office manager, said the office has experienced at least a half-dozen incidents of plant theft.
The thieves are not tearing out the plants just to be destructive, but methodically removing them, presumably for replanting elsewhere. Nelson said the plants cost $15 to $20 each.
Security cameras at the office caught one of the thieves on tape late Friday afternoon, less than two hours after the office closed for the weekend.

Nelson said the man appeared to be carrying a plant from another location when he arrived on a bicycle. He unearthed a plant from the flowerbed at the law office, put it in a bag and rode off.
Assuming plant theft isn’t a top priority for the Modesto Police Department, Nelson said no one at the law firm has reported the thefts. But with the clear surveillance images of Friday’s suspect, Nelson hopes someone will recognize him and call the law firm at (209) 529-0995.
