Sentencing postponed in girlfriend’s deadly shooting near Keyes

A judge on Monday postponed a sentencing hearing until Nov. 13 for a man convicted of murder in his girlfriend’s shooting death near Keyes.

A jury on May 12 found Robert Vanderheiden guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Teresa Rangel. The 36-year-old defendant faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.

Stanislaus Superior Court Judge Linda McFadden scheduled the defendant to return to court in November for his new-trial motion. The judge needs to rule on the new trial motion before proceeding to sentencing.

Vanderheiden remains in custody at the Stanislaus County jail as he awaits his sentencing hearing.
