Detectives walking along the Stanislaus River handing out flyers regarding a missing man apparently found his body Thursday morning.

According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, detectives from Riverbank Police Services were walking along the river, talking to people in the hopes of locating Juan Alipio Hernandez, 47, when they spotted a body at about 9:30 a.m.

The body, located near the river, was not positively identified. The remains were decomposed, but authorities said the clothing and physical build matched that of Hernandez, reported missing on July 7.

Family members at that time told authorities they had not seen Hernandez, who was homeless and known to live down by the river, for about two weeks. Detectives will not be able to positively identify the body or determine cause of death until the autopsy and DNA testing is complete. But authorities said there are no signs of foul play.
