A Modesto man was sentenced Monday to two years nine months in prison for conspiring to commit postal crimes, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Michael Chase Stafford, 29, conspired with others to steal mail from U.S. mail receptacles. From the stolen mail, they acquired credit cards, merchant cards and checks, in addition to account numbers and personal identifiers of victims. They used these items to buy merchandise for themselves.
Stafford’s co-defendant Dawn Renee Wessling was sentenced to 18 months in prison in January 2013 for her role in the conspiracy.
