Two arrested in Atwater shoe store burglary

A man whom police say burglarized an Atwater shoe store was injured while crawling through a broken window.

Ulysses Perez, 23, of Atwater suffered minor injuries after he crawled through the broken plate glass window of a retail shoe shop in the 1200 block of Broadway about 3 a.m. Monday, according to Detective Armando Echevarria.

Atwater police were sent to investigate a commercial burglary alarm early Monday morning. When they arrived, they discovered the broken window.

Not far away, they found Perez and Atwater resident Floyde Watts, 37, with several shoes taken from the business.

Watts told police he didn't participate in the burglary, but acknowledged receiving property from Perez, Echevarria said.

Watts and Perez were arrested and booked at the Merced County Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.
