2 jailed after Atwater shoe store burglarized

ATWATER — A man police say burglarized a shoe store was injured while crawling through a broken window.

Ulysses Perez, 23, of Atwater suffered minor injuries after he crawled through the broken plate glass window of a retail shoe shop in the 1200 block of Broadway about 3 a.m. Monday, according to Atwater Detective Armando Echevarria.

Officers were sent to investigate a commercial burglary alarm early Monday. When they arrived, they discovered the broken window.

Not far away, they found Perez and Atwater resident Floyde Watts, 37, with several shoes taken from the business, Echevarria said.

Watts told police he hadn't participated in the burglary, but acknowledged receiving property from Perez, Echevarria said.

Watts and Perez were arrested and booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.
