The Merced Sheriff's Office said the 59-year-old shooting victim from an incident Tuesday is in stable condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.
It's still unknown what the argument was about that led to the shooting, since detectives have not yet been able to speak with the victim, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The victim received several wounds o his upper torso, including one gunshot wound to the hand. It's unknown exactly how many times he was shot by bullets that may have gone through, but authorities estimate he suffered three to five gunshot wounds.
Merced County sheriff's detectives say the victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center by the suspected shooter.
Merced police were dispatched to Mercy Medical Center shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday after someone had driven the gunshot victim to the hospital in a pickup truck. Police detained the driver, 61-year-old Jose Paz of Planada, at the scene. Sheriff's detectives took over the investigation after learning the shooting happened about a mile and a half outside Merced city limits.
Paz is in custody on $500,000 bail for attempted murder.
