Benson Neal of Modesto was found unsuitable for parole at a Thursday hearing of the state Board of Prison Terms at Solano State Prison, Stanislaus County District Attorney Birgit Fladager announced Monday.
Neal was among a group of people who went to the home of Dixon Flinders on June 6, 1982, intending to rob him. When Flinders grabbed a rifle, one of the men, Frank Ford, shot Flinders in the chest.
While Flinders lay mortally wounded on the floor, the robbers ransacked the residence and made off with money and property. A jury convicted Neal of first-degree murder; he is serving a prison sentence of 25 years to life.
