Arrests in DVD piracy in Turlock

Officials on Wednesday arrested five people suspected of operating an illegal DVD business out of a Turlock home. As part of the investigation, FBI agents and U.S. Postal Inspection Service inspectors served search warrants at homes in the 400 block of South Verduga Road and the 3100 block of North Park Court in Turlock, according to a news release.

The illegal DVD business, federal officials say, was operated out of the Verduga Road home, where the five suspects were found and arrested. The agents and inspectors seized pirated DVDs, DVD cases, computers, DVD manufacturing and production equipment, and packaging materials, according to the news release. Steven Walter Butts, 61; Karen Jean Freyling, 46; Steven Alan Lobue, 28; Earl Riedel, 28; and Raymond Paul Mott, 26, all of Turlock, were arrested on suspicion of mail fraud, wire fraud and criminal infringement of a copyright, according to federal officials.
