Five people were injured in a hit-and-run Wednesday night on Mitchell Road, just east of the Modesto Airport, police said. The ages of the injured people and the extent of their injuries were not available.
They were in a blue minivan when it collided with a gray Chevrolet pickup with a camper shell, Modesto police said. The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. Officers found the pickup abandoned on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Mitchell Road about 100 yards north of the crash. The pickup had its hazard lights on and had major front end damage.
Modesto police officers found four people, who might have been riding in the pickup, on South Riverside Drive, said police Sgt. David Van Diemen. They were being questioned, he said. Authorities closed Mitchell from Riverside Drive to Finch Road as Modesto police investigated the crash.
