Sithy Bin was sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison after his conviction related to shooting and critically wounding a 39-year-old mother at a barbecue in September 2005, the Stanislaus County district attorney's office announced Monday.
Bin was convicted of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and being an active member of Crips with Attitude, which authorities say is a criminal street gang. Officials said Bin drove to the home of a rival gang member and fired at people in the front yard. He hit the woman, who officials said was not a gang member.
