A suspect has been arrested in the Wednesday, July 2, fatal shooting of 38-year-old Donnie Boatman in west Modesto.

Dontae Galindo, 34, was arrested the next day, about a mile from where the shooting occurred, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Ab about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched on reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Leon Avenue, west of John Thurman Field. Boatman was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.

Detectives got the description of a vehicle seen fleeing the scene. This and other information gathered led to the identification of Galindo as the suspect.

He was booked into the Stanislaus County jail on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His criminal history includes prior arrests for attempted murder, drug possession and manufacturing, obstructing a peace officer and other offenses, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Galindo is being held without bail.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Detective Summerton at 209-525-7117 or make an anonymous tip to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 866-602-7463.
