A 63-year-old man called 911 Sunday afternoon to report he’d shot and stabbed his brother.

When Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the brothers’ home in the 1800 block of Vivian Road, an unincorporated area west of Modesto, they found the suspect waiting out front and his 61-year-old brother in the backyard, said Sgt. Josh Clayton.

The victim had two stab wounds and a .22 caliber bullet wound to his torso.

Clayton said it is unknown what provoked the attack; both brothers were intoxicated and uncooperative.

The suspect, Jose De Jesus Sanchez, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. His brother was taken to Doctors Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Clayton said a pocket knife and .22 caliber rifle were recovered at the scene.
