An Empire man suffered major injuries and faces DUI charges after crashing into a fence at the Modesto Airport early Thursday. Two passengers were uninjured.
The crash was reported about 12:25 a.m. The California Highway Patrol investigation found that Ronald Recore III, 23, was driving on South Riverside Drive approaching Mitchell Road. He tried to make a left turn to go southeast on Mitchell but was going too fast.
Recore, in a 2014 Lexus, struck the curb on the west edge of Mitchell, left the roadway and ran through a chain link fence. The Lexus came to rest inside the Modesto Airport grounds.
Recore showed signs of alcohol or drug impairment and was arrested by the CHP. Because of his injuries, he was later released to the custody of Memorial Medical Center, the CHP reported.
Passengers Jacob Roberts, 23, of Ceres, and Kalyn Crowson, 22, of Hughson, reported no injuries.
