A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison for attacking his girlfriend at her Modesto home.
James Hicks of Modesto on Jan. 27 pleaded no contest to injuring a cohabitant, making criminal threats and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Deputy District Attorney Wendell Emerson prosecuted the case.
The attack occurred Sept. 17, when the defendant started an argument with his girlfriend. Hicks punched his girlfriend’s face, choked her and threatened to kill her, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office. The assault left the victim with bruises, scrapes and swelling on her neck and face.
The defendant remained a fugitive for several days until he returned to his girlfriend’s home. Police officers were called, and they eventually found Hicks hiding on the victim’s property.
