Modesto-raised Lindsay Pearce is going from the “Glee” classroom to the “Grey’s” gurney.
The 23-year-old actress appears on an episode of the hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” airing at 8 p.m. Thursday on ABC, portraying a patient being helped by the fictional doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital. She filmed all of her scenes with series leads Ellen Pompeo, who plays show namesake Dr. Meredith Grey, and Patrick Dempsey, who plays Grey’s husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd.
Pearce said her character, Holly, has a medical emergency after a dental procedure goes “horribly awry.”
“It leaves Meredith and Derek arguing over what to do about me,” she said.
“It was a fantastic experience. When a show has been running for 11 seasons, you’d think when new people come in, they’d be like, ‘Oh, another actor.’ But they treated me like I’d been there the whole time. They were very lovely. Patrick Dempsey is the biggest prankster. His entire M.O. was making me laugh and break character, but the plot line was very serious. He is like a big 12-year-old. And Ellen is a big bundle of joy. I was strapped in bed and couldn’t move and she would walk up and say, ‘You want to see pictures of my kid?’ I couldn’t have asked for a better experience on a huge, reputable show.”
Pearce filmed her scenes about a month ago and was on set for a week.
The former “Glee Project” runner-up and “Glee” guest star has kept busy since moving to Los Angeles in 2011. For the past year and a half, she has been a cast member on the theatrical series “For the Record.” The live stage production brings the works of popular, prolific movie directors to the stage, along with the soundtracks to their films.
In January, she will appear on screen in the romantic comedy “The Wedding Ringer,” starring comedian Kevin Hart and “The Big Bang Theory” actress Kaley Cuoco.
This weekend, she will return to Modesto to play a special holiday show at her alma mater, Modesto Junior College. The singer-actress will be the featured performer at Frozen – A Family Holiday Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the main auditorium at the MJC East Campus. She’ll sing “Let It Go” from the animated Disney blockbuster “Frozen.”
She last performed in Modesto in February when she participated in a special fundraising show called “One Night Only” with fellow “Glee” and “Glee Project” castmates at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
“I’ve just been working away and having a blast. It’s the dream,” she said. “I’ll be back in Modesto this week singing and dressing up as Elsa. People should come see and have a good laugh because it’s amazing.”
