Soaking up the arts: Leadership Modesto class gets day for arts, culture

Members of the current Leadership Modesto class had an Arts, Culture and Community Day on Friday, making the rounds among various arts groups downtown. The agenda included a visit to the Gallo Center for the Arts to hear presentations from center CEO Lynn Dickerson, Modesto Symphony Orchestra music director David Lockington, Youth Entertainment Stage Company director Melanee Wyatt and others. The group also visited Prospect Theater Project, the State Theatre, the Central California Art Association’s Mistlin Gallery, the McHenry Mansion and McHenry Museum. At one point on its walk, the group was entertained by dancers from Central West Ballet. Leadership Modesto, now in its 33rd year, is a 10-month program intended to identify and groom future leaders in the community. Participants are exposed to local business, arts, culture, nonprofit organizations, public safety and education, among other things.
