An 18-year-old motorcycle rider died in a collision in east Modesto on Thursday night, police said.

According to authorities, the accident was reported at 9:47 p.m. at Oakdale Road and La Force Drive near Naraghi Lake.

The motorcycle rider, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Justin Lawson of Modesto, was headed north on Oakdale Road on a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. At the same time, a 59-year-old man was driving a Ford Explorer south and turning left onto La Force, traffic Officer Billy Boyle said in a news release.

The two collided. Passers-by stopped to help, performing CPR on the motorcyclist until emergency responders arrived.

Lawson suffered major injuries despite wearing a helmet. He was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Explorer, whose name was not released, suffered minor injuries.

Boyle said investigation into the accident continues and fault has not been determined. There is no indication drugs or alcohol were involved.

It was the 11th fatal accident in the city this year, Boyle said. Fourteen people have been killed. He urged drivers to take extra care on the roads as the weather changes and the busy holiday traffic season approaches.
