TRAINING HELPS SENIORS DEVELOP JOB SKILLS
Sept. 21-27 is national Hire Older Workers Week. The Senior Community Service Employment Program, which is partially funded through the Stanislaus County Aging and Veterans Services Department, offers senior citizens training that could lead to jobs with local companies and agencies. The program places participants in nonprofit or governmental host agencies for training. Seniors in the program gain skills including general office experience, computer knowledge, customer service, warehouse, cashiering, stocking and more. Generally, program participants are not looking for career positions; they want to be productive and active to stay alert and supplement their Social Security income, said a news release from Linda Lowe, Stanislaus County Aging and Veterans Services planner. To learn more, call Gretchen Van Schaick, participant staff trainee, at (209) 576-6071. The SCSEP Employment Development Department office is at 629 12th St., Modesto.
