Info: Operation Christmas Child has its annual kickoff to fill shoe boxes for children around the world. Volunteer applications will be available. What: “RE” PURPOSEFUL CRAFTS

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

Where: Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road

Info: Teens and adults can take part in “Re” Purposeful Crafts. Participants will learn three ideas for turning something old into something new using cereal boxes, glass jars and books. YESTERYEARS

40 YEARS AGO: The Modesto Racquet Club Aquatics team won its last four relay events to hold off the Chico Aqua Jets and the Sportsmen of Stanislaus. MRCA won the invitational event with a score of 2,046.5, 20 more points than Chico, while the S.O.S. team finished third with 1,188 points. The daylong invitational included 52 individual events and freestyle relays.
