Modesto showed off its muscle cars, and then some, as part of a commercial shoot for a new XBox One driving game Monday night.
More than a dozen cars and drivers assembled in front of Brenden Theatres to be part of the shoot, which will promote “Forza Horizon 2,” set to be released by Microsoft in late September. The documentary-style clip will follow racer Mario Bonfante Jr., a quadriplegic who is continuing his driving career thanks to a specially modified BMW M3. Bonfante Jr. and the camera crew are road tripping from his home in Orange County up to Microsoft headquarters near Seattle this week.
Modesto was selected as one of the team’s stops along the way because of its historic and thriving car culture, producer Adam Lawson said.
“We’re road tripping it all out, and we’re stopping at these great Americana moments. So we’re here in Modesto getting its awesome car culture and lights,” Lawson said.
Jennifer Mullen, chief executive officer and executive director of the Modesto Convention and Visitors Bureau, organized the shoot after she was contacted by the film crew Friday afternoon. She wrangled up more than a dozen Modesto car enthusiasts who drove up in everything from a Ferrari to an Iso Griffo, along with an assortment of Porsches, Jaguars, Corvettes, dragsters and more.
Lawson said the completed commercial should run about 2 minutes and begin airing around mid-August.
“Forza Horizon 2” comes out Sept. 30 and allows players to race through many locations, terrains and weather conditions in more than 200 high-performance cars.
