Students experience life in medical field at Modesto’s Kaiser hospital

High school students from San Joaquin County spent the day at Kaiser Modesto Medical Center to see what it takes to be a health care provider. Thursday’s visit to the Dale Road hospital was part of Decision Medicine, a program offered by the San Joaquin Medical Society. Twenty-four students are chosen for the two-week program that allows them to explore the world of medicine through mentoring and visits to medical facilities. Participants may shadow a doctor for a day or hear presentations in a simulation lab such as the one at the Kaiser Permanente hospital. Thursday, the students watched a childbirth simulation in the high-tech lab, which is used to train nurses and doctors.
