Modesto man seeks $6,500 from city, claiming fire official rear-ended his vehicle

A Modesto man has filed a $6,500 claim against the city, alleging that a Modesto Regional Fire Authority battalion chief rear-ended his pickup last month, smashing in the rear bumper and frame.

Alejandro Perez said he did not have more details about the June 10 crash on Kansas Avenue because a friend was driving his truck. Perez said he loaned the pickup to his friend because the friend was moving. Modesto police say the crash happened when the pickup driver stopped for a red light and was rear-ended.

The claim names Battalion Chief Hugo Patino as the driver who hit the pickup. Patino acknowledged hitting the truck but declined to say more.

MRFA interim Chief Sean Slamon said Patino was returning from a call and driving a fire authority sport utility vehicle when the crash occurred. Slamon said the incident is under investigation.
