Police are looking for at least four men who were in two stolen Honda Accords fleeing officers Tuesday night from the shopping center on Countryside Drive, authorities said.

Police were called the Safeway parking lot at 3051 Countryside Drive at 9:56 p.m. after a witness reported seeing someone burglarizing a car, according to Sgt. Stephen Webb of the Turlock Police Department.

As officers were heading to the scene, they spotted the suspect car, a brown Honda Accord, along with a black Honda Accord, in the parking lot of Home Depot.

The brown Honda had been reported stolen from a Subway in Turlock, and a pursuit with both cars began, Webb said.

The black Honda went off the road on Fulkerth Avenue, and the driver, the only person in the car, ran into a nearby field. Officers set up a perimeter and brought out K9 units, but were unable to capture the suspect, Webb said.

The black Honda also turned out to be stolen; that theft hadn’t been reported.

Meanwhile, the brown Honda, with three to four suspects, got away as officers focused on trying to capture the suspect in the black Honda.

The brown Honda was found later abandoned near Fulkerth and North Commons Road, Webb said.

Items stolen from the car burglary that originated the call, including two speakers, an MP3 player and an iPod touch, were recovered in one of the stolen cars.
