Firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to a fire at the Pine Ridge Apartments that displaced four families.
Ceres fire Battalion Chief Randy Wheeler said the fire was reported about 4:50 p.m. at the complex in the 1300 block of Richland Avenue. He said one apartment in an eight-unit building was engulfed when firefighters arrived. He said they quickly knocked down the flames.
The second-story unit sustained $50,000 to $70,000 in damage. A neighboring unit sustained minor heat damage and the unit below sustained minor water damage. Wheeler said the complex manager relocated families in four of the apartments to other units and had maintenance workers help the tenants move.
Wheeler said the fire appeared to have started on the patio, and the fire's cause remains under investigation.
