Heat remains in Valley but could ease a bit

The heat will start to retreat a bit today, according to the National Weather Serv- ice, which forecasts low 90s by Sunday.

Modesto topped out at 100 degrees Wednesday, the Modesto Irrigation District's downtown thermometer showed.

The city fell short of the record of 103, set in 1984, but was hotter than the historical average of 93.

Temperatures are forecast to be in the mid-90s through Saturday, then drop a little Sunday and Monday.
