Coroner releases name of girl, 4, who died days after being struck by car in Modesto

A 4-year-old girl who was struck by a slow-moving car last week and died Monday has been identified as Marian Hinckley.

The Stanislaus County coroner released her name Wednesday.

An autopsy was inconclusive on the cause of her death, which police are investigating as a traffic fatality.

On June 21, police said, the child was walking north on McHenry Avenue across Union Avenue in Modesto with her mother, who was pushing her 2-year-old child in a stroller.

A woman driving east on Union was preparing to make a right turn onto McHenry when she ran into the girl, police said.

The child suffered scrapes and bruises and had a bloody nose.

She was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto and transferred to Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland for precautionary reasons.

She was released several days later and returned home.

She was found dead at home Monday morning.
